Hi friends!

I am recovering from Pride weekend and am going on a road trip starting tomorrow night. So I need a moment. But I will be back in full force next week.

Meera and I (more Meera, of course) made t-shirts this weekend with messages ironed on. Meera’s shirts read GIRL YOU WALK LIKE A BITCH and HABIBTI. Mine were WHAT THE HELL, SURE and THEY LOVE MY BI SWAG.

This week’s photo is from when I was given a wig to put atop my head, which already had a bandana.

Current fixations I want to mention

Food & Drink

The pregame is often better than the party. I didn’t try much new stuff this week but did appear at a random Midtown bar/restaurant called John Doe’s, and they were very accommodating to our rambunctious, expanding group. Daily happy hour until 8 p.m. I sipped some mules.

Music

Dumb and fun and kinda hot: “Gabriela” by KATSEYE. It’s a modern “Jolene,” and I mostly like it because of the music video. Two of the girls in the group are out as queer #PrideMonth

Internet & Pop Culture

The Haim sisters were on Watch What Happens Live and I guess they are obsessed with Real Housewives of New Jersey’s Dolores Catania. Andy Cohen brought her out to surprise them and they had a fit. It was like they were meeting the most important celebrity in the world, maybe even a politician. They hugged her and loved on her so much. It was just really funny to see Haim fangirl. I don’t watch Jersey housewives, but I assume she doesn’t know much about the band.

Television & Maybe Movies

My mom’s favorite movie is Moonstruck. I’ve never seen it in full until this week, and I totally get it. The whole thing takes place in a, like, five-block radius in Brooklyn Heights (aside from the opera). It’s so Italian. It’s so 80s. It’s so CHER! It’s so good. The side characters are some of the best I’ve ever seen. The woman cursing a plane, the couple fighting in the liquor store, the couple fighting at the restaurant…lots of anger in this movie. Nic Cage’s character is so, so angry. It’s hilarious. Ugh. If you love rom coms, Italian-Americans, big hair, or Brooklyn, you need to watch. Side note: OBVIOUSLY I’m watching Ultimatum: Queer Love. Almost all caught up!

Journalism & Literature

NY Mag sent out a special Hamptons issue this year for the first time in like 25 years and had a bunch of vapid, silly stories about fussy freaks. I think my favorite story was from Sex and the City inventor Candace Bushnell: “All the Men Are on Low-Dose Viagra. And the Women Have Been Ghosted.”

Something I Saw in the Wild

Some bad drag, unfortunately. We went into this gay bar down the street from a friend’s party late, like past midnight. There was an existing audience, but the queen did not seem happy that a bunch of lesbians walked in because when she asked the crowd for requests, she was not interested in our group’s Chappell Roan pitches. She could have taken any other recommendation from the crowd but instead said she would do a compilation of multiple Chappell songs. Girl, you are the performer; you dont have to do songs you hate! After demanding cash before starting the song so that she would perform, she proceeded to waltz around the room to a mix of four songs — and she didn’t know any of the words to any of them! Why would she choose this? So odd. She complained a bunch throughout the process. I’ll give her that her show apparently started at 9, and she was still going when I left at 1:15 when I left saw that her show allegedly started at 9. I get that drag is hard, though. Anyway, all of my friends were too drunk/happy to notice the poor lip syncing. I can’t help that I’m Michelle Visage watching Coco Montrese.
